Hooray....Health Puzzle Solved

Hello Everyone...first we would like to apologize for the lack of posts the last few weeks. We had been so excited a couple months back to find out about Sam's anemia and we thought that was the missing link to his health issues that have plagued us during the last year, but once again it was a short lived improvement. It got a little depressing to tell the truth and I didn't want to post anything else until we had better news.

I am one stubborn Mistress because I wanted my Sam to get better and I could not accept that once again he improved just to go rapidly worse. And the level of insomnia he was having for months and months on end was really the worst I have ever heard of. He literally was a walking zombie in a mental fog all the time with no energy to do practically anything. I couldn't stand to think that this would be the rest of his life. So once again I set about researching.

I spent hours on the net again trying to find the missing link, feeling deep down in my gut that the real root of all of these auto immune problems was still there eating away at him one day at a time. So I scoured the net until I found something else that sparked my attention and then I focused in on that and it was like a huge light bulb flashed and I got chills because I was sure I had found not only what was still wrong with Sam but also what had causd all of this that he has been through.

So I called him right away and he literally rushed out the door to get a panel of blood work and a biopsy done to see if I was right. I was certain that Sam has Celiac Disease. That is the disease where when your body has gluten enter it, the body attacks but rather than attack the gluten, it attacks your own tissues and glands and organs and nervous system. It actually could indeed be the CAUSE of all of this problems including the fact he became lactose intolerant too. It also accounts for the endless sinus infections, the auto immune diseases he has and well, just every single thing that has happened to him in the last few years.

So we had to wait two weeks for the test results to come back, but in the mean time Sam agreed to have a gluten free diet, and within just a day his sleep started to improve and it has been improving ever since along with the other symptoms too. What a relief. We pretty much knew the answer already, but we didn't want to post anything on our blog until we knew for sure.
I have been saying all along to Sam (even last summer) that I was sure there was something else going on that was causing all this, but the doctors couldn't come up with anything, and in the end I had to take matters into my own hands to save the one I love. As you know Sam has had many serious health problems this last year especially, that I feel like discovering this very well may have saved his life in the long run.

It is very possible that an adult that doesn't have an extreme version of Celiac Disease can live with it untreated for many many years while it attacks their body in various ways before it would ever be discovered. It is different than with a child who would be failing to gain weight, or actually losing weight and muscle tone. And because all his symptoms actually fit with the other auto immune sicknesses he has, the doctors were not looking for anything else, despite the fact that with all his treatments rather than get better and better he was getting worse and worse. The doctors just felt that everything could have been explained just from what he already knew he had.

So now it is pretty simple, no new meds to take, in fact just a dietary change. Let me just say that the last two weeks I have seen more improvement in Sam than I did at any other point, even with the small improvements he made with each sickness found. For the first time I think we both actually believe the very worst is over and it should be all getting better from here.
I feel like now he can really get his life back, get back to work here soon and already we are starting to have our fun and let me say that this time something IS different and Sam is coming back to me.

Just be patient a little longer with us for the super fun posts to start...
And thank you for those of you who have taken a moment here and there to send us nice comments/emails because it really means a lot to know that you care and wish us well.
